Thomas M. (Tom) Thorfinnson
Chief Strategy Officer, Rotary International
Tom is a graduate of St. Olaf College majoring in mathematics and economics. He has a law degree from Marquette Law School and was engaged in the private practice of corporate law for over 35 years. He has served on the board of directors of over 25 for profit and not for profit organizations, including serving as a director for First Minnetonka City Bank. For 16 years he was an instructor of business law for the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management.
Tom became a Rotarian in 1980 and has served Rotary in various volunteer capacities.
He was President of the Hopkins MN Rotary club in 1992-93 and went on to serve as District Governor, District Membership Chair and TRF Annual Giving Chair.
Beyond the district level Tom has served as Vice President and Director of Rotary International, Vice Chair and Trustee of the Rotary Foundation and for seven years was part of the Strategic Planning Committee for Rotary International. Tom is currently a member of the Eden Prairie Noon Rotary club (MN USA) is a Paul Harris Society Member, a Level 2 Major Donor and a level 4 Bequest Society Member.
In October of 2016 Tom stepped away from the private practice of law, stepped down as Trustee and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for The Rotary Foundation and assumed the full-time position as Chief Strategy Officer for Rotary International.
His team assists in the development and implementation of an organization-wide strategy. In addition, he manages teams that provide the following services: research and evaluation, business intelligence, project management, product development, business process improvement and the pursuit of strategic and funding partnerships.
